CRLS Summer Math (Algebra II) Preview Program Teacher

About the Program

Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS) consists of four learning communities that support the vision of the Cambridge Public Schools (CPS) to provide all students with rigorous, joyful, and culturally responsive learning as well as the social, emotional, and academic supports each student needs to achieve their goals and post-secondary success as engaged community members.

CRLS will provide Summer Preview Programs in Math for CRLS students who have chosen to take an Honors or Advanced Placement class next school year and have also been identified as part of a population that has historically experienced racial and/or economic marginalization. The program focuses on:

• Social, emotional, and academic support
• Equitable access to curriculum and opportunities
• A joyful and challenging learning experience

The primary objectives of the Math Preview Program (MPP) are to:

• Forge and cultivate strong relationships with peers and teachers
• Build academic confidence in the specific subject area, enhancing engagement and joy in class during the school year
• Demonstrate and encourage a growth mindset, embracing risk-taking and innovation

Each class will focus on reviewing and reinforcing prerequisite skills, previewing essential content-specific skills for a successful start to the school year, and developing studentship skills such as note-taking, organization, time management, class participation, and self-advocacy. Teachers are expected to employ differentiated instructional strategies for academically, linguistically, and culturally diverse learners.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate and encourage a growth mindset philosophy and risk-taking throughout the program

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
• Massachusetts certification in grade 9-12 subject matter
• Experience teaching in an urban, multi-cultural school system with inclusionary practices
• Meet NCLB highly qualified teacher requirements

Pay

The contract amount shall not exceed $2,500.00 or 50 hours of work at the Summer School Teacher rate of $50.00 per hour. Your hourly rate is dependent upon your collective bargaining agreement or individual hourly rate. Non-exempt employees will be paid time and a half for any hours worked over 40 hours per week.

Schedule

Program sessions will be offered for a two-week period during the summer of 2025. The contract length is from July 1, 2025 through September 1, 2025.
