Critical Operations Technician

About the role

The Critical Operations Technician (COT) supports a local data center campus. Key responsibilities include maintaining mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems, executing safety, team, availability, communication, and knowledge-related programs, and managing day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical responsibilities: Working on chilled water systems, HVAC components, humidification systems, and central plant operations.
  • Electrical responsibilities: Operating and monitoring electrical/critical power distribution systems, UPS, PDU, and RPP cabinets.
  • Fire Life Safety responsibilities: Monitoring wet and pre-action sprinkler systems and their detection devices.
  • Other duties: Implementing safety culture, tracking and trending operational characteristics, providing feedback to management, managing preventive and predictive maintenance, assisting with database management, and providing exceptional customer service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3-5 years' experience in a data center or related mission-critical operations role.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications and other database housing software.
  • Strong understanding of data center electrical and mechanical systems, including UPS, transformers, PDUs, RPPs, chillers, CRAH, CRAC, STS, ATS, and pre-action systems.
  • Knowledge of NFPA70e, NFPA72, NFPA25, and compliance issues as well as building codes in regard to fire life safety.
  • Familiarity with data center trending and analysis, and ability to use PC-based site monitoring systems.
  • United States Navy Nuclear Engineering preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of data center electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications and other database housing software.

  • Familiarity with data center trending and analysis, and ability to use PC-based site monitoring systems.
  • Ability to manage preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
  • Experience with CMMS systems.
  • Ability to solve problems using developed procedures.
  • Experience with asset and consumable inventory management.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to provide applied mechanical and integrated control expertise for the entire data center.
  • Technical writing skills for preventative or corrective maintenance activities.

Pay

$40.00 - $53.00 per hour.

Schedule

Work hours may vary based upon business needs.

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background screening.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays, and on-call support.
  • Must be comfortable working in a high stress, fast paced environment with shifting priorities.
