About the role

The Critical Operations Engineer I (COE I) plays a crucial role in the Data Center Operations team. They operate, monitor, and maintain critical data center electrical, mechanical, cooling, and fire/life safety systems to support reliable facility operations. Key responsibilities include performing routine operational tasks, responding to alarms and abnormal conditions, supporting customer infrastructure projects, and collaborating with team members, vendors, and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot mission-critical electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems to ensure uptime and reliability
  • Perform facility inspections, respond to abnormal conditions, and document findings
  • Track, trend, and analyze system performance; utilize CMMS to manage work orders and maintenance
  • Support electrical distribution from utility and generator switchgear through UPS and customer load
  • Aid with maintenance activities involving generators, switchgear, UPS, STS, ATS, PDUs, transformers, and power circuits
  • Perform customer power adds, disconnects, and related infrastructure support activities
  • Monitor wet sprinkler and double-interlock pre-action systems and associated detection devices
  • Support customer infrastructure projects including cage builds, rack and stack, overhead installs, power, and cabling
  • Partner with senior technicians, contractors, and vendors on maintenance, upgrades, and expansions
  • Provide advanced remote hands, manage trouble tickets, incidents, and customer requests
  • Contribute to procedures, documentation, and continuous improvement while promoting Operational Excellence

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, self-motivation, dependability, accountability, and a team-oriented mindset. They must also have commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence, clear written and verbal communication skills, working knowledge of data center electrical, mechanical, and BAS/BMS infrastructure and systems, and comfort with using hand tools, electrical test equipment, and standard computer applications.

Preferred Experience

  • Electrical distribution systems including generators, switchgear, UPS, STS, ATS, PDUs, and transformers
  • Mechanical systems including chilled water, HVAC, CRAC/CRAH, humidification, pumps, VFDs, cooling towers, and heat exchangers
  • Fire protection systems including wet sprinkler and double-interlock pre-action systems
  • BMS, PLC controls, and integrated monitoring systems
  • Fiber and copper cabling installation, termination, and testing
  • Proficiency with fiber optics, structured cabling, and telecommunications infrastructure
  • Basic security systems, including access control, CCTV, and facility monitoring systems

Physical Demands

The position demands standing, walking, sitting, using hands to handle or feel objects, reaching with hands and arms, climbing stairs, stooping or kneeling, talking, and hearing. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment with changing priorities, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call hours as needed is also required.

CoreSite offers competitive compensation, including a base salary between $38.00/hr and $40.00/hr, an annual bonus, and equity.
