Critical Operations Engineer I Role:As a member of the Data Center Operations team, the Critical Operations Engineer I (COE I) is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining critical data center electrical, mechanical, cooling, and fire/life safety systems to support reliable facility operations. COE I performs routine operational tasks, responds to alarms and abnormal conditions, supports customer infrastructure projects, and works closely with team members, vendors, and customers while developing technical knowledge and experience within a mission-critical environment. The COE I follows established operational procedures, safety standards, and best practices while supporting day-to-day facility operations and continuous improvement efforts. The position also performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. What You’ll Do:Critical Facilities Operations:Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot mission-critical electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems to ensure uptime and reliabilityPerform facility inspections, respond to abnormal conditions, and document findingsTrack, trend, and analyze system performance; utilize CMMS to manage work orders and maintenanceElectrical Systems:Support electrical distribution from utility and generator switchgear through UPS and customer loadAssist with maintenance activities involving generators, switchgear, UPS, STS, ATS, PDUs, transformers, and power circuitsPerform customer power adds, disconnects, and related infrastructure support activities Mechanical SystemsMechanical Systems:Operate and maintain chilled water, HVAC, CRAC/CRAH, humidification, and central plant systemsSupport cooling optimization, pumps, VFDs, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and water treatment. Fire Life Safety & Infrastructure:Monitor wet sprinkler and double-interlock pre-action systems and associated detection devicesSupport customer infrastructure projects including cage builds, rack and stack, overhead installs, power, and cablingCollaboration & Customer Support:Partner with senior technicians, contractors, and vendors on maintenance, upgrades, and expansions. Provide advanced remote hands, manage trouble tickets, incidents, and customer requestsSupport administrative and communication activities across CMMS, ticketing, monitoring, and other operational platforms; maintain accurate documentation and provide timely updates to stakeholdersContribute to procedures, documentation, and continuous improvement while promoting Operational ExcellenceKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Required:Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply technical knowledge effectivelySelf-motivated, dependable, and accountable with a strong work ethicTeam-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate across operations, engineering, and customer teamsCommitment to safety, quality, and operational excellenceAbility to work in a fast-paced, high-availability environmentClear written and verbal communication skillsWorking knowledge of data center electrical, mechanical, and BAS/BMS infrastructure and systemsStrong understanding of data center electrical and mechanical infrastructureWorking knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, OSHA, and fire life safety requirementsComfortable using hand tools, electrical test equipment, and standard computer applicationsPreferred Experience:Electrical distribution systems including generators, switchgear, UPS, STS, ATS, PDUs, and transformersMechanical systems including chilled water, HVAC, CRAC/CRAH, humidification, pumps, VFDs, cooling towers, and heat exchangersFire protection systems including wet sprinkler and double-interlock pre-action systemsBMS, PLC controls, and integrated monitoring systemsFiber and copper cabling installation, termination, and testingProficiency with fiber optics, structured cabling, and telecommunications infrastructureWorking knowledge of basic security systems, including access control, CCTV, and facility monitoring systemsEducation/Experience:High School Diploma or greater2-5 years of experience in the data center industryProven hands-on experience with large commercial or industrial electrical and mechanical systemsStrong fit for candidates with experience in the military with HVAC or Electrical trainingPhysical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the job’s essential functions. Must pass background check, employment verification, and other pre-employment requirements. Compensation: Compensation for this role includes a base salary between $38.08/hr and $44.15/hr.
