About the role
Operating Engineers must be able to immediately recognize system shortcomings, respond to operational and emergency situations, and provide technical guidance and direction during real time problem management. They operate building systems in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with government regulatory compliance and standard operating procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily walk-through of sites to ensure proper operation of electrical and HVAC equipment and identify any potentially hazardous conditions
- Interface with Critical Operations Team to coordinate Critical Area Program, including scheduling maintenance windows, participating in staff meetings, and interfacing with key vendors and project management personnel
- Identify safety hazards within the building and incorporate the remediation of such hazards to ensure a safe environment
- Participate in the safety training program and other safety protocols outlined by company or client policy
- Perform predictive maintenance, preventative maintenance, maintenance routines, and equipment rounds, and service requests as directed
- Install, maintain, repair, and operate mechanical and electrical equipment and systems
- Inspect and repair pumps, fans, valves, and motors to ensure proper operation of facility equipment and systems
- Perform general facility-related maintenance work, including plumbing repairs and replacement of lamps/ballasts
- Support vendors on preventive and repair activities that cannot be performed in-house
- Administer the Critical Facility Change Request notifications and Critical Facility Incident Reporting processes
- Keep records of building rounds and readings, engineering logs, and engineering data sheets
- Track electrical/mechanical loads for all critical systems
- Collaborate with the Energy Management team to develop programs that reduce energy consumption and increase sustainable practices
Requirements
- High school diploma or state equivalent
- Prefer two years of college or related trade schooling
- Three years of plant building operating experience, with data center experience preferred
- Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent
- Prefer experience in Electrical or HVAC/Refrigeration trades (journeyman level or higher)
- Certification as a Universal Technician for CFC’s or the ability to earn within 90 days of hire
Skills
- Ability to perform all work using proper personnel protective equipment (PPE)
- Thorough knowledge of energy efficient building system operations
- Demonstrated aptitude for thermodynamic, electrical, and/or mechanical systems, as well as computer-controlled equipment
- Working knowledge of computer applications, including Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Proficiency with BAS & CMMS systems preferred
