Critical Care Veterinary Technician - Part Time

What You'll Do

• Treat critically ill and injured patients
• Place long-lines (PICC lines, Drum lines, and Central Lines)
• Perform in-house diagnostics (blood work, radiographs, etc)
• Administer blood transfusions
• Administer vasopressors and pain medications
• Set up the mechanical ventilator and hi-flow nasal oxygen
• Auxiliary with extracorporeal procedures (TPE, hemoperfusion)
• Maintain and monitor critically ill patients
• Interact with clients to help them understand their pet’s care
• Collaborate with DVMs to provide exceptional care to our hospitalized patients
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions), and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures
• Monitor and provide nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who You Are

• An experienced Veterinary Assistant or Registered Veterinary Technician with 2+ years of experience in emergency and/or critical care medicine
• A team player with a growth mindset
• Self-motivated and a critical thinker
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment
• Proficient in “medical math”: comfortable calculating drug doses and making CRIs
• Comfortable with high acuity cases and humane euthanasia

About the Role

This position is part-time, working Friday 7am-5pm and every other weekend 7am-5pm.
