Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive care to critically ill patients in the ICU setting.
- Conduct patient assessments including history, physical examinations, and ongoing clinical evaluations.
- Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with attending intensivists and the critical care team.
- Manage acute and chronic conditions affecting critically ill patients including respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, and multi-organ dysfunction.
- Perform bedside procedures such as central line placement, arterial line insertion, intubation assistance, and other ICU-related procedures consistent with credentialing and training.
- Interpret diagnostic tests including laboratory results, imaging, and hemodynamic monitoring.
- Carefully coordinate care with consulting services, nursing staff, respiratory therapy, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to patient care planning.
- Document patient encounters and clinical decisions accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Provide education and support to patients and families regarding treatment plans and prognosis.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
- Current Maine licensure as an NP or PA (or eligibility for licensure).
- National certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- BLS and ACLS certification required.
- Critical care or ICU experience preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, team-based environment.
