Crisis Worker - Substitute

About the role

Thresholds’ Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) is dedicated to providing services and supports to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. Our Crisis Workers respond to mental health crises in the Kankakee County community, offering alternatives to hospitalization or police response.

Responsibilities

• Answer calls to our crisis hotline and conduct a safety assessment to determine the appropriate response.
• Connect callers to appropriate services or providers, or provide face-to-face interventions as needed.
• Assist individuals in crisis with the least restrictive intervention possible, which can include walking through panic attacks or assisting with hospitalization.
• Distribute basic necessities to individuals in crisis, such as first aid items, water, or warm clothes.
• Offer follow-up services and document the services provided after responding to a crisis.
• Participate in professional development through self-directed projects and community outreach efforts during downtime between calls.

Requirements

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods and occasionally traverse long distances and ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs.
• Must be at least 23 years old.
• Must have a valid driver’s license (preferred).
• Must be flexible to work 1st (7:00am-3:30pm), 2nd (3:00pm-11:30pm), or 3rd shifts (11:00pm-7:30am) as a substitute worker, and willing to pick up weekend or holiday shifts.

Schedule

• 1st shift (7:00am-3:30pm)
• 2nd shift (3:00pm-11:30pm)
• 3rd shift (11:00pm-7:30am)
