Criminal Justice Training Instructor I (Range Unit)
Job Responsibilities
Prepare and deliver approved instruction on basic firearms safety, defensive driving, and related techniques.
Serve as a coach and safety officer during classroom, firearms range, and driving instruction.
Duty as either the primary or assistant instructor during firearms qualifications and emergency vehicle operations training.
Serve as the primary or assistant instructor for shotgun, moving target (mover), and incapacitation (INCAP) drills within the Basic Law Enforcement (BLE) program.
Evaluate and update the course as needed.
Serve as the primary or assistant instructor for Basic Patrol Rifle and Patrol Rifle Instructor courses.
Evaluate and update the course as needed.
Affix with your application a training transcript from the POST or certifying body.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma and eight (8) years of firearms law enforcement instructional experience
- Associate degree and six (6) years of firearms law enforcement instructional experience
- Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of firearms law enforcement instructional experience
- Master’s degree and two (2) years of firearms law enforcement instructional experience
- Currently certified as a Basic Instructor Development (BID) Instructor
- Currently certified S.C. Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer (LEO)
- Currently a certified LEO in another ***jurisdiction with full powers of arrest with the ability to become an S.C. LEO within one year of hire.
Additional Requirements
- Must work in inclement weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Driving Instructor Certification
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Salary
The hiring salary is commensurate with full-time LEO instructional experience: $60,696-$66,000.

- Knowledge of instructional visual aids and presentation development.
- Prominent ability to instruct, research, and develop comprehensive lesson plans, presentations, and curriculum.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of student assessment and academic evaluation techniques.
- Ability to analyze problems, develop practical solutions, and make sound recommendations.
- Ability to coordinate and oversee the work of students and others.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, supervisors, and agency partners.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, social, and educational backgrounds.
- Willingness to participate in field training requiring travel and overnight stays.
- Availability to work holidays when classes are in session.
- Required to work in inclement weather conditions.
- Must obtain and maintain CDL.
- Maintain good physical condition.
- Availability to assist other law enforcement agencies during emergency situations.
