Criminal Investigator II, G118, District Attorney
About the role
This position is responsible for performing criminal investigations for the District Attorney’s Office. Major duties include providing support to prosecuting attorneys during criminal investigations, conducting investigations on various types of criminal complaints and cases, making arrests, testifying in court, and assisting in the preparation of courtroom visual aids.
Responsibilities
- Supports prosecuting attorneys during criminal investigations.
- Conducts investigations on a wide variety of criminal complaints and felony/misdemeanor criminal cases.
- Prepares and serves criminal process documents.
- Makes arrests based on probable cause, bench warrants, search warrants, arrest warrants, and criminal complaints.
- Provides courthouse and courtroom security during trials.
- Locates and contacts victims, witnesses, and potential witnesses; makes travel arrangements for victims and witnesses; conducts background checks on potential witnesses; coordinates the appearance of witnesses at trial and explains court procedures to them.
- Testsifies in court concerning evidence gathered in pre-trial investigations.
- Obtains statements, documents, and related evidence for use in court.
- Prepares courtroom visual aids, such as diagrams, photographs, and documents.
- Aids District Attorneys during court.
- Checks and verifies jury lists.
- Retrieves and stores physical evidence.
- Operates police radios, computers, photographic and recording equipment, and other related law-enforcement equipment.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- Must have at least six (6) years of experience.
- Must have a Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education (TCOLE) license.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the purposes, principles, terminology, and practices required in criminal investigations, legal proceedings, and the judicial process.
- Knowledge of legislative updates and professional mandates related to criminal investigations, legal proceedings, and the judicial process.
- Knowledge of audio and video formats, evidentiary technology, and related court procedures.
- Knowledge of evidence preservation and chain of custody requirements.
- Knowledge of equipment, technology, materials, and chemicals used in criminal and crime scene investigations.
- Skills in the use of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skills in interview techniques.
- Skills in processing, analyzing, and preserving evidence.
- Skills in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
- Skills in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports.
- Skills in oral and written communication.

Pay
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
Schedule
The schedule is flexible and may vary depending on the needs of the office.
Additional Information
The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required. This position is not covered under Civil Service; however, all other Webb County policies apply.
