Investigator - District Attorney
About the role
The Tulare County District Attorney’s Office seeks an experienced investigator to join our team. This position will investigate felony and misdemeanor crimes, including major complex investigations like major fraud, political corruption, complex homicides, and capital cases.
Responsibilities
- Investigate felony and misdemeanor crimes by gathering, assembling, preserving, and reporting facts and evidence.
- Interview victims, defendants, complainants, witnesses, and other persons who may provide information pertinent to the case.
- Analyze and evaluate testimony, make notes of significant points, and prepare reports of the investigation.
- Work closely with Probation Officers, Social Service Workers, and other law enforcement officers in locating absent parents or other responsible relatives.
Requirements
- Three (3) years of experience as a peace officer, including one (1) year performing criminal investigations.
- A minimum qualification of completing the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by technical courses in police science or investigation.
Qualifications
- A regular Basic Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certificate.
- A valid California driver's license.
Skills
- Knowledge of basic math sufficient to calculate distances, income, and time.
- Investigative practices, procedures, and techniques in major and complex cases, including fraud, homicide, and sexual assault.
- Laws of arrest, search and seizure.
- Basic First Aid.
- Gun types and ballistics.
- Observation and surveillance techniques.
- Legal codes such as Business and Professional, Penal, Vehicle, Health and Safety, and Civic Codes pertinent to cases.
- Court procedures to assist attorneys in case preparation.
- Government recordkeeping systems to research information.

- Government recordkeeping systems to research information.
- Recognize and identify narcotics and drugs.
- Speak Spanish or other second language common in the County.

Conditions of Employment: Candidates selected will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Additionally, a background investigation may also be conducted, which may include a re-investigation every 10 years for some positions.
