Responsibilities
- Aids in gathering pertinent data and identifying significant factors for complex or specialized cases.
- Locates and develops evidence to support plea negotiations.
- Planners and organizes work independently, contributing to trial or section preparations and case dispositions.
- Reconstructs events, sequences, and time elements for criminal cases.
- Locates, interviews, and notifies witnesses through service of subpoenas, summonses, and writs, and coordinates their transportation and lodging.
- Collects and prepares physical evidence for trials and reviews medical autopsy and forensic reports.
- Assists during jury selection and trial phases.
- Trains Level I investigators and acts as lead when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have passed a GED or hold a high school diploma.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a job-related field of study.
- Two (2) years peace officer experience, or an Intermediate Peace Officer Certificate from T.C.L.E.O.S.E. with no experience.
- Must be a Certified Peace Officer and proficient in the use of a firearm.
- Knowledgeable of investigative techniques and able to communicate with a diverse group of individuals.
- Skilled in applying interviewing techniques in adverse or hostile conditions.
- Passes criminal background investigation.
- May require successful completion of a polygraph exam, psychological exam, physical exam, and extensive background investigation, and is subject to random, unannounced drug/alcohol testing.
- Physical/Environmental Requirements: Standard office environment 50% of the time, with the remainder spent in a typical law enforcement street environment.
- Must maintain all State of Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCOLE) certification as an Intermediate Peace Officer and be proficient in the use of a firearm.
