Criminal Attorney III

About the role

The City of Boise seeks an experienced Attorney III to join our team. This position involves supervising junior attorneys and contributing to critical improvements in the criminal justice system. Key responsibilities include representing the city in court, managing discovery, and handling complex cases.

Responsibilities

• Represents the City of Boise in criminal and civil matters, including arraignments, pre-trial conferences, and trials.
• Manages and screens incoming cases, prepares motions, and writes legal documents.
• Conducts criminal background checks, reviews driver’s licenses, and evaluates case strengths and weaknesses.
• Communicates with defendants, defense attorneys, victims, and other stakeholders.
• Prepares witnesses for trial, handles hearings, and conducts trials.
• Researches and writes legal memoranda and briefs, responds to defense motions, and advocates for the city.
• Participates in special projects and leads teams in improving criminal justice initiatives.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school with 4 years of relevant experience.
• Licensed and active member of the Idaho State Bar.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license.
• Passing background check and reference checks.
• Ability to operate a computer and demonstrate proficiency with legal software.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Experience leading or supervising junior attorneys.

Special Requirements

• Passes City of Boise background check processes, including a criminal history check and reference checks.
• Passes a driving record check.
• Passes education verification and CJIS background check.
• Hybrid work eligible.
