Responsibilities

The Crime Victim Compensation Specialist position will be responsible for:

• Working with limited supervision and performing a number of duties related to processing Crime Victim Compensation claims and providing assistance to crime victims and service providers
• Duties assigned are generally complex: The employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence
• Communicating with the public, community partners, co-workers and other members of the District Attorney’s staff; Interactions frequently occur with who are in crisis or other stressful situations and requires discretion and judgment as well as courtesy, tact, and empathy
• Evaluating the need for additional documentation
• Monitoring and tracking receipt of the information and entering data completely and accurately
• Answering telephone inquiries from the public, providing referral to community agencies, and responding to inquiries from community agencies and service providers
• Reading and summarizing police reports
• Explaining Crime Victim Compensation program policies to victims and service providers
• Processing payments and data entry
• Other duties, as assigned or requested

Requirements

• Data entry skills
• Bilingual in Spanish
• Knowledge of medical billing
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask and do two more tasks simultaneously
• Comfortable with answering phones
• Exceptional customer service
• Ability to read police reports and speak to victims of violent crime

Qualifications

• Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
• Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of clerical experience
• Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement
