Crime Reporting Field Representative

About the role

This position is located in the Field Services Unit (SIBRS) in the Information Services Division located in Oklahoma City, OK. Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities related to providing training and assistance to law enforcement agencies and officials in the proper reporting of criminal arrests and activity and the maintenance of required records.

Responsibilities

• Perform data quality reviews and forward results to agency for correction for all monthly Incident Based Reports for assigned agencies no later than 68 days past the due date at least 95% of the time.
• When applicable, verify and report to the unit supervisor that an agency has no reportable offenses for a month in accordance with unit standard operating procedures.
• Request late and zero letters in accordance with unit standard operating procedures.
• Plan, coordinate, and conduct individual and group classroom training of law enforcement personnel in the requirements of crime reporting procedures and techniques such as SIBRS and ODIS as required.
• Conduct training in at least two regional training sessions per calendar year. All trainings will be conducted in accordance with agency policy, unit standard operating procedures, and FBI data collection standards.
• Serve as liaison to all law enforcement agencies within assigned region; providing guidance, oversight, and assistance relating to collecting and reporting of criminal offenses in accordance with agency policy, unit standard operating procedures, state law, and FBI Uniform Reporting Guidelines.
• Provide at least one in-person or telephone agency contact per calendar quarter to all law enforcement agencies within assigned region at least 100% of the time.
• Aid law enforcement agencies in developing, implementing and managing automated crime incident record keeping systems. Provide feedback to supervisor concerning functionality of system changes as applicable.
• Serve as ODIS backup customer support and other special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of experience in crime reporting, in the field of law enforcement, public relations, or data collection, auditing, and reporting for each year of the required education.
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of recordkeeping and report writing methods and procedures; of business English and office practices; of statistical research methods and electronic data processing; of law enforcement operations, methods and procedures; of operations of local government; and of manual and automated recordkeeping systems.

Qualifications

• Ability: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Skills

• Data collection, auditing, and reporting experience should include: gathering data from different sources, ensuring the data is accurate and complete, and preparing a written report concerning that data for submission to a higher authority.
