Crew Leader - Landscape Maintenance
About the Role
The Field Manager is responsible for managing labor and material in the field to complete assigned contract maintenance and snow removal projects. Additionally, Field Managers develop the people who report to them. Success is measured by contract renewals, jobs completed within budgeted hours, and low negative turnover of assistants and crewmembers. This position requires cooperation with other landscape management and enhancement field managers to meet overall branch goals.
Responsibilities
- Develop a clear understanding of company philosophies, branch goals (short- and long-term), and the branch’s financial position.
- Get to know your team to help them develop within the company; set goals and monitor progress through timely formal and informal evaluations.
- Participate actively in the training process by attending or conducting certification training sessions regularly.
- Plan, schedule, and supervise daily production activities on assigned contracts.
- Understand hourly and cost budgets for each job; monitor job hours, reports, and costs, and take action as needed.
- Communicate budget hours to assistants and crewmembers.
- Build strong client relationships on every job; monitor work quality and proactively address issues with customers by inspecting jobs daily and completing property service reports.
- Sell an acceptable level of extras using T&M (time and materials) tickets.
- Maintain assigned vehicle and equipment in good working order.
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to manage others at various levels.
- Demonstrated ability to work with service customers.
- At least one year of experience in commercial contract maintenance work.
- A two- or four-year horticultural or related degree and two years of industry experience; additional industry experience or certifications can substitute for a non-related degree, a two-year degree, or no degree.
- Ability to identify and diagnose insect and disease problems and schedule appropriate treatment.
- Working knowledge of vehicles and equipment used in contract maintenance and snow removal.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record over the last three years.
