Credentialed Veterinary Technician - Emergency
Job Summary
BluePearl Specialty + Emergency Pet Hospital in Port Washington, WI is seeking experienced Veterinary Technicians to work in their busy Emergency and Urgent Care department. This position offers a fast-paced, learning environment where you can utilize your skills and grow professionally.
About the Role
As a Veterinary Technician, you will work in a dynamic setting that requires quick thinking and hands-on care. You will be responsible for inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia, triaging emergency cases, performing digital radiography, and managing various medical tasks. You will also have the opportunity to mentor and train other team members.
Responsibilities
- Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients
- Triage emergency cases as they arrive, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure
- Perform digital radiography using proper technique, including proper patient positioning
- Have a complete understanding of normal patient vital sign ranges, including heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation
- Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs, and alert the veterinarian to any changes or issues
- Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR
- Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
- Be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels
- Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters
- Maintain a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers
- Show patience and empathy to address client concerns
Requirements
- Experience in emergency and urgent care settings
- Proficiency in anesthesia induction, recovery, and monitoring
- Knowledge of digital radiography techniques and patient positioning
- Ability to interpret and respond to patient vital signs
- Experience with blood pressure and other vital sign measurements
- Skills in administering medications and managing medical equipment
- Proficiency in phlebotomy and catheter placement
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Passion for mentoring and training others
Qualifications
- Current license to practice veterinary technology in Wisconsin
- Bachelor's degree in veterinary technology or related field preferred
- Experience in emergency and urgent care settings
- Previous experience in a veterinary hospital setting
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Pay
The pay for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Schedule
This position offers three 12-hour shifts with rotating weekends, swing, and overnight hours.
