About the role
MasTec Civil is hiring certified Crane Operators to join their team in Mobile, AL. The ideal candidate must have Bridge Experience and experience operating a Manitowoc 999 lattice boom crane.
Responsibilities
- Operates under Lift Director supervision and works with crews on various types of cranes: All Terrain, Rough Terrain, Mobile Crawlers, Hydraulic Cranes, and Boom Trucks.
- Performs on heavy construction projects within any combination of the duties described more fully below.
- Transfers from one task to another as the workflow dictates.
- Maintains compliance responsibilities set forth in the OSHA standard Subpart CC, Cranes and Derricks in Construction (29 CFR 1926.1400–1442).
- Communicates and responds to radio commands and/or with the ASME B30.5 Standard Hand Signals for Mobile Crane Operations regarding lift communications and/or lift instructions.
- Performs daily inspections, performs routine maintenance procedures and minor repairs as required, and initiates additional repair requests from mechanics when necessary.
- Supports other crane operators as necessary, including working overtime to complete tasks, operating several types of equipment, and training, or monitoring junior operators.
- Maintains visual and radio contact with ground operators according to best practices and site safety regulations, and responds to questions and instructions clearly and quickly.
- Demonstrates proficiency in handling, pre-start inspections, post-start inspections, maneuvering skills, shut down and securing procedures.
- Performs daily safety and operational inspections of the crane, prepares and submits daily crane inspection reports as per internal protocols and industry requirements.
- Inspects and recommends appropriate actions to maintain the crane in good working order.
- Ensures all lifts are within load limits of equipment and correctly rigged.
- Operates various mobile cranes safely with a minimum of supervision while being able to handle multiple tasks.
- Understands crane operation characteristics, controls, emergency skills, response to fire, power line contact, tipping, malfunction characteristics, and performance questions about the specific crane types in use.
- Responsible for all safety aspects of operating the equipment.
- Willing to assist in other duties as required while not operating a crane.
- Knowledge to inspect cranes and recommend appropriate actions to maintain the crane in good working order.
- Knowledge and understanding of OSHA requirements in connection with crane operation including daily inspection log, focus on crane operation, and being able to safely hoist, move and place materials and objects using appropriate attachments.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or general education degree.
- 5+ years’ experience lifting and placing concrete by bucket, prefabricated bridge beams, precast bridge deck panels, rebar, concrete pipe as well as metal forming components.
- NCCCO or NCCER certification.
