About the role
LJ Inc. is seeking a Crane Operator to join our dynamic team. This role is under the general supervision and guidance of the Division Manager and is responsible for the safe setup, operation, and breakdown of cranes to support various construction and industrial projects.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate mobile and/or stationary cranes to lift, move, position, and place materials and equipment.
- Perform pre-operational inspections and daily equipment checks to ensure safe operating condition.
- Set up crane, including proper outrigger placement, cribbing, and leveling.
- Interpret load charts and calculate load capacities to ensure safe lifting operations.
- Perform rigging inspections and coordinate closely with riggers and signal persons.
- Lift, position, and place materials in accordance with project specifications.
- Maintain clear communication with signal persons and crew members during lifting operations.
- Monitor weather conditions and jobsite surroundings to ensure safe crane operation.
- Perform basic maintenance such as greasing, cleaning, and reporting mechanical concerns.
- Follow all company policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Maintain detailed awareness of personnel, equipment, and structures within crane operating radius.
- Assist with jobsite support tasks when crane operations are not in progress, as needed.
Qualifications
- NCCCO and/or NCCER Certification required.
- Valid CDL Class A preferred.
- Prior experience operating cranes.
- Strong knowledge of load charts, rigging procedures, and lift planning.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety practices.
- Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to follow directions clearly.
- Proven ability to work safely, efficiently, and professionally in a fast-paced construction environment.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent sitting while operating equipment.
- Climbing in and out of crane cab.
- Standing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching.
- Using hands and fingers to operate controls and manage small components.
- Lifting and carrying materials up to 50 pounds.
- Maintaining visual acuity to judge distances and distinguish colors/signals.
- Working in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
