Qualifications
- Valid Georgia driver’s license
- High school diploma or GED (or equivalent)
- Plumbing technical training (preferred)
- Minimum 2 years plumbing experience in commercial construction, building maintenance, or similar demonstrated acceptable experience
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions quickly and accurately
- Effective and tactful communication with others
- Ability to follow plumbing technical instructions, drawings, and diagrams
- Knowledge of all plumbing codes, procedures, materials, tools, hazards, and safety procedures
Responsibilities
- Perform skilled installation, preventative maintenance, and repairs of plumbing systems and equipment for the Building Maintenance Department, adhering to accepted codes and procedures
- Diagnose and repair malfunctioning plumbing equipment and systems
- Install, maintain, regulate, and assemble plumbing and plumbing equipment accurately
- Record repairs made and parts used according to departmental guidelines
- Assume responsibility for materials issued from inventory and truck stock
- Maintain and account for all tools, parts, and equipment issued according to department guidelines
- Ensure access to all tools, parts, and equipment issued
- Operate and maintain handheld work order/inventory management device
- Supervise private contractors when assigned to perform required work
- Plan and direct appointed personnel in the daily work schedule as required
- Monitor and maintain safe work procedures and compliance with building and safety codes
- Train private contractors and other district employees as necessary to complete work according to building and safety codes
- Collaborate with other personnel in the trade area and other department personnel
- Coordinate with other craftsmen to complete assignments
- Maintain positive relationships with all district personnel
- Work toward improving craftsman skills and abilities
- Learn to service and repair different types and makes of hardware, equipment, machinery, and building structures
- Receive training for repairing new types of items throughout the county
- Work as required after normal work hours
- Be on call after normal working hours for a period of seven days
- Be subject to being called 24 hours a day, seven days a week
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
- Stand, walk, negotiate stairs, and climb ladders
- Reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear
- Manipulate tools and small items with hands
- Lift and transport up to 50 pounds over short distances
- Operate a motor vehicle in performance of duties
- Use specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, and color vision
The employee may be subjected to:
- A wide range of ambient temperature and humidity conditions
- Overhead work and work in confined spaces
- Potential hazards including working with electricity, heat and noise producing machinery and equipment, elevated equipment using ladders or other lifting devices, and use of chemicals and solvents
