CPW Wildlife Property Technician IV - Area 12 Southeast Region - Otero County.

About the role

The position exists to manage, enhance, and protect wildlife habitat on Oxbow SWA, Purgatoire SWA, Setchfield SWA and various lease properties for the benefit, and enjoyment of the hunting and non-hunting public. The technician is responsible for working cooperatively with district wildlife managers, biologists, and partners to identify and implement habitat improvement projects and a wide variety of other wildlife related responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Cooperatively develop and implement habitat improvements, five-year maintenance, and legal compliance plans.
• Afford assessments of SWA’s deficiencies and identify future needs.
• Determine project priority in accordance with CPWs Strategic Plan, Regional direction, and area work plans.
• Consult with internal and external wildlife professionals on specific project needs.
• Administer all agricultural leases on state wildlife areas.
• Maintain, improve, and utilize irrigation delivery systems on a daily basis throughout irrigation season.
• Manage noxious weeds.
• Maintain, monitor, and repair equipment and property facilities to include fencing, signing, parking lot and access points, bridges, roads, check stations, boat ramps, toilets, water manipulation devices and buildings.
• Use and maintain vehicles, tools and equipment to include heavy equipment, farm machinery and large power tools.
• Maintain all pertinent and informational records, property files, and photos.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and capital equipment inventories.
• Updates and maintains certifications and skills through continuous experience and by attending conferences/trainings.
• Acquire goods and services while following appropriate purchasing and fiscal procedures/rules, process temporary personnel documents, maintain technical knowledge and qualification in chemical application for weeds.
• Administer agricultural leases on state wildlife areas.
• Provide customer service on CPW properties, in the field, and/or in the office.
• Provide information on general wildlife related questions and handle nuisance wildlife calls within the area when needed while providing a professional appearance adhering to uniform policies.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Four (4) years of relevant experience in agriculture management, natural resource management, facility/building operations, grounds management, construction management or an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
• No formal college education is required. OR A combination of related education in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Biology, Aquatic Biology/Fishery Science/Aquaculture/Fishery Management, Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Outdoor Recreation, Zoology/Animal Sciences, Engineering, P.E / Professional Engineer, Water resources planning or management, Program Management/Project Management, Agricultural Sciences and/or relevant experience in agriculture management, natural resource management, facility/building operations, grounds management, construction management equal to four (4) years.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current or former State experience relevant to the position.
• Current or former CPW work or volunteer experience.
• Experience managing detailed records and quality control of data.
• Experience with agricultural practices and associated machinery/tools.
• Experience with building maintenance and associated tools, plumbing and electrical work.
• Noxious weed spraying experience.
• Knowledge and abilities with wildlife habitat improvements, mitigations, and manipulations.
• Experience with reporting water use and irrigation.
• Knowledge of noxious weeds and spraying.
• A commercial driver's license or ability to obtain one.

• Applicant must be able to transport heavy equipment between state wildlife areas.
• This position will require but is not limited to the handling of pesticides, fertilizer, equipment batteries, gasoline, diesel, paint, and motor oil.
• Position will be required to work some weekends and long/odd hours.
• Occasional travel and overnight stays are required for training, etc.
