About the role
The Judicial Department provides professional Realtime reporting and transcribing for court proceedings, hearings, and conferences. This position is part of a progressive job series (Court Reporter I–IV), and placement will be determined based on minimum qualifications and relevant experience. Applicants must hold Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification through the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) and achieve 94% accuracy (the Colorado standard) on one of the following exams: Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR), Certified Broadcast Captioner (CBC), Certified CART Provider (CCP), or Federal Certified Realtime Reporter (FCRR).
Responsibilities
- Provide real-time, verbatim court reporting services through stenographic shorthand for jury trials, preliminary hearings, motions hearings, and other court proceedings.
- Manage and maintain records, prioritize transcript production, and prepare required reports and documentation pursuant to Chief Justice Directive 05-03 and local policies.
- Ensure backup of all stenographic notes, rough drafts, completed transcripts, reporter dictionaries, CAT software files, and stenographic machine files.
- Assist team members, collaborate on hearings and trials, share files and work product, and attend weekly meetings.
- Occasionally direct helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree or 2 years of college (additional work experience may substitute year-for-year for formal education).
- 1 to 3 years of court reporting experience.
- RPR certification through the NCRA and 94% accuracy on one of the following exams: CRR, CBC, CCP, or FCRR.
Skills

Work Environment
- Medium physical effort: exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently.
- Office or indoor environment with potential exposure to hostile or irate individuals, including those with violent backgrounds.
