Description
The purpose of positions in this classification is to assist in program development, supervise facilities and maintain records; and develop, implement, and evaluate programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops specific areas of concentration (i.e., facility reservations, swimming, photography, peer advisement, employment referral, sports) as opposed to coordinating a wide variety of programs at any one time.
- May act as a work unit lead, coordinating workflow, schedules, daily task delegation and on-the-job training assistance.
- Assists in supervising facility operations and in developing, planning, directing and implementing program activities. Instructs and supervises program participants. May transport participants in vehicle requiring a Class B drivers’ license.
- Evaluates specific programs. Develops specific activity areas within a defined budget. Promotes and enforces policies and procedures.
- Implements spontaneous recreation programs. Leads program development and coordinates activities.
- Assists in maintaining Community Services facilities and coordinating equipment maintenance. Inventories and orders supplies.
- Researches, prepares and disseminates necessary reports, publicity, and statistical data as required. Assists in preparing and processing program records and documents (i.e., gallery loan documents, class instructor contracts, work orders, warrants).
- Provides customer service. May provide student outreach support to promote program participation.
- May act as Senior Lifeguard. May organize, officiate, instruct and coordinate tournaments or act as an athletic league coordinator.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- Equivalent to the completion of high school supplemented by two years of college or university level work in Recreation, Social Ecology, Education or related field and two years experience as a Community Services Leader, preferably with the City of Irvine, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must be at least 16 years of age, but 18 year age minimum may be required.
- Must possess a valid California driver's license and show evidence of a good driving record. May require the successful completion of a Class B drivers’ license examination.
- May require the successful completion of a Class B drivers’ license examination.
- May also require certification in first aid, CPR, Lifeguard Training, and/or Water Safety Instructor.
- May require evidence of a negative tuberculin test taken within the past two years.
- For Licensed Child Care positions, individuals must meet State Licensing requirements.
