Third Judicial District Court in Las Cruces, New Mexico is recruiting for a full-time, classified Court Probation Officer 1 for the Treatment Court Programs. This role focuses on a rehabilitative, treatment-focused approach that emphasizes accountability, recovery, and long-term success.

About the role

This is not a traditional probation officer position. Responsibilities include case management, participant support, field visits, and collaboration with treatment providers while monitoring participants' compliance with court orders. The position works a flexible 4/10 schedule (four 10-hour shifts), with a fluid schedule that changes weekly based on court operations and participant needs. This may require working days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations on defendants/offenders, establish needs, and develop appropriate treatment support plans.
• Participate in scheduled progress meetings at court-appointed locations.
• Monitor defendants/offenders’ compliance at court hearings and with community service program requirements; track and record community service participation.
• Report, document, and notify the court of defendants/offenders’ compliance, non-compliance, or program violations; recommend appropriate action.
• Maintain current case files and document all interactions with program defendants/offenders and treatment providers in the case management system.
• Perform scheduled and unannounced site visits (home, work, school, or other locations) to monitor program compliance.
• Monitor program compliance utilizing electronic monitoring technology.
• Track and administer drug and alcohol screens; maintain alcohol and drug screening protocols, equipment, and supplies.
• Participate in and attend conferences, training, community outreach, and educational programs related to court programs.
• Prepare written and oral reports detailing defendants/offenders’ program compliance and make recommendations on future treatment support or referrals.
• Provide input during court proceedings and meetings with court staff and other treatment providers.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Knowledge of court-ordered rehabilitation or support programs, sentencing guidelines, treatment options, and community services available.
• Knowledge of New Mexico law, civil and criminal procedure, local court rules, policies and procedures, operations, and structure.
• Knowledge of case management, legal terminology, substance abuse and mental health counseling and treatment, mediation techniques, conflict resolution, investigative techniques, drug screening methods, and electronic monitoring equipment and technology.
• Knowledge of court case management systems.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Ability to interact positively with co-workers, clients, the public, judges, and justices.
• May be required to obtain and maintain National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification within six months of hire.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or a related field.
• Education Substitution: Four years of directly related or relevant experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
• Experience: One year of experience in criminal justice, social services, or a related field.

Pay

$23.830 per hour or $49,566.40 annually.

Schedule

Flexible 4/10 schedule (four 10-hour shifts), with no fixed weekly schedule. May require working days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
