About the Role

The Court Liaison will be responsible for all correspondence related to court orders for patients and will oversee all records and tracking of mental health court appearances and evaluations at our Medical Behavioral Hospital of Clear Lake location.
Responsibilities
- Provide coordination of clinically indicated services to individuals and the courts for persons receiving court orders.
- Draft and submit petitions, notices, affidavits/certificates of service, and denial rights motions with the court on behalf of the patient and the facility.
- Compile, maintain, and track mental health court appearances and evaluation appointments for all patients admitted to the facility on an involuntary basis.
- Assemble chart materials for mental health court evaluations and hearings to provide evidence for each patient’s hold.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of relevant activities in patient medical records.
- Provide all relevant information from court hearings to the appropriate department at the facility.
- Communicate effectively with court clerks, court-appointed doctors, public defenders, and various court personnel to coordinate and deliver correct patient information for hearings and evaluations.
- Communicate patient court progression with appropriate departments at the facility.
- Assist in providing a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for patients, significant others, and staff.
- Work with other county courts in Texas to clarify the warrant process for our facility.
- Act as an educator for community resources needing direction on the process of filing Emergency Detention Orders (EDOs) to admit involuntary patients to our facility.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or Psychology field required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a related role, preferably within a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Experience with legal or court liaison responsibilities is highly preferred.
- Typing, word processing, spreadsheet, and PowerPoint skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated management and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license verified upon hire.
- Reliable transportation required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Handle with Care (HWC) certifications obtained during orientation.
