Responsibilities

  • Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies, performing duties in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values.
  • Adheres to hospital policies, including confidentiality.
  • Assists with the orientation of new employees.
  • Performs patient care and essential functions with minimal supervision, utilizing proper body mechanics when moving equipment or supplies.
  • Reports broken or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or department head.
  • Drives cars, trucks, and vans to various sites throughout the local area in accordance with state and local laws and safety regulations.
  • Picks up, loads, moves, and delivers materials, mail, packages, and equipment up to 50 lbs. in accordance with the printed route schedule.
  • Inspects vehicles daily and maintains proper levels of gas, oil, water, tire pressure, and cleanliness; ability to change flat tires when necessary.
  • Responds by telephone to non-routine routing instructions.
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational, and hospital requirements.
  • Adheres to current infection control and safety standards.
  • Regular and prompt attendance; ability to work scheduled hours and overtime as required.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of tenth school grade; experience as a Motor Vehicle Operator may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama.
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.

Benefits

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
