A Day in the Life

As a Part‑Time Courier in our Wilmington, NC lab, you will be responsible for the safe, timely, and compliant transportation of environmental samples, documents, equipment, and materials between client sites, laboratories, project locations, and company facilities. Deliveries must follow regulatory standards and internal protocols related to environmental protection, hazardous‑materials handling, and chain‑of‑custody requirements. You may also deliver sampling supplies and perform other tasks to meet client expectations.

Responsibilities

• Transportation & Delivery: Pick up and deliver environmental samples (water, soil, air, waste, etc.) according to schedules; be flexible with routing and travel; safely transport equipment, supplies, test kits, and documentation; maintain accurate travel logs, delivery records, and chain‑of‑custody forms.
• Compliance & Safety: Follow all federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including hazardous‑materials rules when applicable; adhere to company safety policies, PPE requirements, and environmental handling procedures; properly store, secure, and protect samples to preserve integrity; report any driving‑related tickets or arrests within the required timeframes.
• Client Service & Communication: Interact professionally with clients, vendors, lab personnel, and internal staff; promptly communicate delays, issues, or schedule changes; represent the company positively while on the road or at client sites.
• Vehicle & Equipment Care: Operate and maintain company vehicles in safe condition; perform basic inspections (fuel, oil, tire pressure, cleanliness) and report maintenance needs; ensure proper functioning of coolers, temperature‑control devices, and storage equipment used for sample transport.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (required).
• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Ability to lift and carry materials typically 25–50 lb (required).
• Strong time‑management and organization skills (required).
• Ability to follow detailed procedures and documentation requirements (required).
• Experience in environmental services, laboratory work, or regulated transport (preferred).
• Knowledge of chain‑of‑custody procedures (preferred).
• Familiarity with DOT/HAZMAT regulations (training may be provided) (preferred).

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Sitting, standing, and walking; driving for long periods.
• Lifting up to 50 lb several times a day; overhead lifting of over 20 lb.
• Exposure to hot and cold environments.
• Occasional shifts up to 12 hours in duration.

Pay

$17.00 to $18.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.
