Position Duties
- Locating and recovering stolen vehicles
- Identifying vehicle theft trends
- Conducting chop shop investigations
- Identifying stolen vehicles that have been disguised through VIN altering and/or title washing
- Fraudulent vehicle purchases
- Investigating carjackings
- Interviewing victims of auto theft
- Suspect interviews
- Familiarity with technology pertinent to auto theft
- Collecting forensic evidence
- Testifying at criminal proceedings
- Report writing
- Collaborating with local, state and federal agencies to reduce and prevent incidents of auto theft
Requirements
- Current certification (ACT 120) under the Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) required
