About the role

This is investigative work at the full-performance level for the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office. The position conducts investigations for use in prosecuting criminal cases involving stolen motor vehicles and related offenses.

Responsibilities

  • Locate and recover stolen vehicles
  • Identify vehicle theft trends
  • Conduct chop shop investigations
  • Identify stolen vehicles that have been disguised through VIN altering and/or title washing
  • Investigate fraudulent vehicle purchases and carjackings
  • Interview victims, suspects, and witnesses of auto theft
  • Collect forensic evidence
  • Testify at criminal proceedings
  • Write detailed reports
  • Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to reduce and prevent auto theft incidents
  • Conduct surveillance and make arrests
  • Maintain familiarity with technology pertinent to auto theft

Requirements

  • Current certification (ACT 120) under the Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission (MPOETC)

This position reports directly to the Chief County Detective.
