Position Summary

This position is responsible for assisting customers and providing administrative duties in the Assessor's Office.

Major Duties

  • Records property transfers; receives and stamps deeds; maintains log of deeds processed; submits property splits to Mapping Technician; mails necessary forms; compiles sales report for public viewing.
  • Enters data to computer; verifies accuracy of property and parcel information.
  • Prepares and sends courtesy tax bills to new property owners.
  • Calculates and compiles actual rollback tax information for auditing purposes.
  • Assists the public in person and by telephone, including providing information regarding parcel numbers, addresses, size, property and building locations, appraised values, manufactured homes, legal residence, and agricultural use.
  • Assists appraisers and mappers.
  • Assists with deeds.
  • Performs legal residence verifications.
  • Ability to cross train and help with all scenarios.
  • Able to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Collects monies and issues receipts.
  • Processes mailing address changes for property owners as requested.
  • Assists the public with using the GIS computer and obtaining maps.
  • Issues mobile home permits and moving permits; collects fees and taxes; issues receipts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge Required

  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of various real estate forms and documents, including deeds, plats, and sales contracts.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting maps and deed information.
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations.
  • Skill in operating a computer and standard office equipment.
  • Skill in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

Preferred Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Physical Demands

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table with intermittent standing, bending, crouching, or stooping.
  • The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.

Work Environment

  • The work is typically performed in an office setting.
