Counter Staff

About the role

Flour Bakery + Cafe is seeking exceptional counter staff for part-time positions at our Harvard Square location. You’ll greet and assist guests, assemble pastry orders, prepare coffee and espresso drinks, take catering orders, and potentially help prepare sandwiches—all while delivering outstanding hospitality.

Schedule

This position is for Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only, every week, with the potential to pick up additional shifts in the near future. We ask for availability of at least 3–4 shifts per week, including at least one weekend day.

Responsibilities

• Engage guests by greeting them, smiling, treating them with kindness, and guiding them through the order process
• Answer guest questions accurately and courteously
• Prepare and assemble pastry orders, coffee, and espresso drinks
• Take and process catering orders
• Assist with sandwich preparation as needed
• Operate equipment such as cash registers, coffee machines, and grinders
• Recognize when and where help is needed and assist other departments
• Maintain grooming and uniform standards

Requirements

• Self-motivated and thrives in a fun, fast-paced team environment
• Ability to stand for long periods, walk, push, pull, reach, and lift
• Excellent sense of urgency and hospitality
• Ability to take feedback and direction
• Willingness to work in a team and help all other departments as needed
• Minimum commitment of six months (no seasonal or temporary work)

Qualifications

• Previous bakery/cafe counter, barista, front-of-house, or prep cook experience is helpful but not mandatory
• Scheduling availability for at least 3 shifts (20 hours) per week, including one weekend and one closing shift

Work Environment

• Fast-paced environment with loud noises, machinery, and tight spaces
• Exposure to various aromas and fluctuating temperatures
• Gluten may be present in the air; accommodations for staff allergies are made when possible

Pay

Starting base wage is $15 per hour, with an average total compensation of $20–$24 per hour (including $5–$9 per hour in pooled tips). The total pay range for this position is $15–$19.32 per hour.
