Counter Sales / CDL Backup Driver

About the role

Airgas is hiring a Counter Sales Associate / Backup CDL Driver to sell industrial, medical, and specialty gases, welding supplies, and related equipment; assist customers in person, by phone, and email; manage cylinder loading/unloading and forklift operation; serve as a backup driver for hazmat deliveries; maintain inventory levels; and handle accounts receivable and paperwork. The role requires a strong commitment to hazardous‑material safety standards and DOT vehicle inspections.

Responsibilities

• Sales & Business Development: Solicit sales from new and existing customers for industrial, medical, and specialty gases, welding supplies, and related equipment.
• Customer Support: Assist customers via email, telephone, and walk‑ins; provide guidance on equipment usage and material requirements.
• Operations & Logistics: Load and unload cylinders, operate forklifts, and serve as a backup driver when needed.
• Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain proper hardgoods and cylinder levels to prevent supply emergencies.
• Administrative & Financial: Manage accounts receivable, discuss past‑due accounts, collect payments, and ensure all paperwork (coding, costing, pricing) is accurately completed.

Requirements

• Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License
• Valid Medical Examiner’s Card
• Hazmat Endorsement (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire)
• At least 21 years old
• One (1) year of Class A professional driving experience within the last five (5) years
• Successful completion of Airgas background and motor‑vehicle check
• DOT Clearinghouse verification from previous employers
• Ability to routinely lift/move 25–75 lbs. and occasionally lift 76–100+ lbs.
• Willingness to work outdoors in changing temperatures
• Ability to maintain a drug‑free workplace
• Adherence to safety regulations and policies
• Flexibility to work overtime as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Forklift experience
• Touch‑freight delivery experience
