About the Role
Provides counseling services and coordinates the activities for specialized disability or personal counseling programs that support student academic success. These programs include learning strategies, disability advocacy, or personal and career counseling and development.
Responsibilities
- Provide student counseling, advising, consulting, advocacy, and other support services to individuals or groups of students in a specialized area.
- Implement program goals, objectives, activities, and strategic initiatives, and assess consequences and outcomes of program initiatives.
- Coordinate day-to-day operations of an assigned program, ensuring compliance with applicable internal and external requirements.
- Serve as a liaison for program activities and services, working with faculty and staff to provide support and services for students.
- Coordinate program activities with other internal departments and external agencies.
- Compile, prepare, and review data and related reports and correspondence.
- Coordinate and present workshops and informational sessions on topics in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Provide one-on-one student advising, consulting, and/or counseling services, including:
- Support resolution of personal issues, from everyday challenges to significant life struggles.
- Identify constructive ways to deal with complex life situations.
- Help students gain understanding, knowledge, and perspective on various life circumstances.
- Support development of decision-making skills and reinforce student self-direction and problem-solving.
- Provide learning strategies for success to diverse student populations.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
Requirements
- Knowledge of marketing and/or public outreach principles.
- Understanding of research methods.
- Familiarity with applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Knowledge of public relations principles.
- Understanding of budgeting principles.
- Principles and practices in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Analytical methods and techniques.
- Report preparation methods.
- Awareness of area resources.
- Program management principles and techniques.
