Position Overview
The Counselor position provides clinical services to students seeking services at the Counseling Center.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Triage and crisis intervention
- Limited individual and group counseling as indicated
- Selected outreach efforts
- Provide referral resources to students, faculty and staff
- Consult with residence hall directors, residence hall assistants, colleagues, deans, departments, faculty, staff, student groups and community as needed
- Provide crisis intervention services for students, faculty and staff
- Work with the Counseling Center consulting psychiatrist: Make referrals as needed, consult about these referrals, attend the case Review Meeting
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Master's Degree or PhD in a psychology/counseling field and experience as a generalist clinician with young adults
- 3-5 years of experience
- Ability to work independently and to prioritize and execute multiple tasks consistent with assigned timeline
- Able to work in a team environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal with diverse constituencies
- Strong computer competency, to include proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Access), and web-based and social media applications
- Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality and meet documentation requirements
- Seek supervision and consultation as needed
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Doctoral degree
- WI state license or certification
- Experience with counseling in a college setting
- Training in telebehavioral health service delivery
- Experience in several of the following issues: cross cultural counseling, eating disorders, sexual violence, career counseling, alcohol/drug abuse assessment and treatment, group therapy, crisis intervention, suicide prevention, grief/loss, trauma, and/or prevention education
