Position Skills, Abilities and Expectations
Preferred:
- Licensed Marriage Family Therapist or Licensed Professional Counselor with training and/or experience in child and adolescent development and adult learning.
- Masters Degree or equivalent, in counseling, psychology or related field.
- 2-4 years direct experience in counseling elementary and/or middle school aged children.
- Knowledge of culture specific issues related to mental health.
Essential Job Functions:
- Guides students in the development of life competencies and supports their emotional wellbeing.
- Works with teachers and IB Coordinators to chart key life competencies across the curriculum and lead the Second Step curriculum pilot.
- Completes intake and assessment interviews with students, gathers history, identifies presenting problems, and initiates collaboration with school academic counselors, teachers, and administration.
- Provides ongoing progress updates to team members, final outcomes, and follow-up care under supervision of a licensed therapist.
- Provides individual and/or family therapy services to students, under supervision, and if registered as a counseling intern or in a graduate program.
- Engages in crisis management, providing immediate assistance to students or staff, and contacting emergency services as needed.
- Organizes and facilitates social and educational group lectures and workshops for students.
- Researches, refers, and links clients and students to community resources for various physical and psychological needs.
Pay
$75K plus benefits.
Schedule
Primarily an office/sedentary position. May require some degree of intermittent bending, stooping, reaching, and stretching. Lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs may be required. Access to a personal vehicle and local driving in and around Orange County is required.
