About the role
The Counselor, Access Programs, Part-time Adjunct Pool position at Kern Community College District provides dedicated support to students participating in various programs such as DSPS, EOPS, CARE, NextUp, and CalWORKS. Services are tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized support to students in DSPS, EOPS, CARE, NextUp, and CalWORKS programs.
- Offer non-instructional activities including academic advising, career guidance, and education and transfer planning.
Requirements
Must meet minimum qualifications for both EOPS and DSPS as defined below:
- EOPS: Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, or the equivalent.
- DSPS: Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling; OR counseling, guidance counseling, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling; AND 15 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level coursework specifically related to people with disabilities.
Qualifications
A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406).

Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues; ability to work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals; ability to develop curriculum; ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies; knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
