About the role

Kern Community College District is accepting applications for part-time, hourly adjunct instructors to provide instruction in a full range of Physics/Astronomy courses. The starting salary range is $67.00/hour; the hourly rate may vary based on type of assignment and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula. Applications remain active for up to two years.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in Physics/Astronomy courses, which may include teaching at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning, and using multiple teaching methodologies
  • Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Science department
  • Maintain subject matter currency
  • Develop and revise curriculum
  • Use computer and multimedia technology
  • Engage in collegial participation in departmental, college, and discipline-specific professional activities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics
  • OR Bachelor’s in physics or astronomy AND Master’s in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics
  • OR the equivalent
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
  • Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions; any degree from outside the United States must be evaluated by a NACES or ACEI member service
