Job Role

Working within a busy office, you will be expected to carry out the following duties:

  • Preparing and submitting fixed fee and exceptional Legal Aid bills of costs and High Cost Case Plans.
  • Preparing and submitting necessary bundles to accompany submissions to the LAA
  • Liaising with counsel’s chambers to ensure counsel’s claims are appropriately submitted and fee notes available at the time of billing.
  • Liaising with third parties and fee earners to ensure all recoverable costs and disbursements are appropriately claimed.
  • Liaising with clients in respect of legal aid bills, as required.
  • Serving bills in accordance with procedural requirements and relevant cost assessment protocols.
  • Monitoring CCMS notifications and ensuring prompt submissions and responses within LAA deadlines
  • Staying up to date with developments in legal aid cost regulations, assessment criteria, and funding guidance in family law matters
  • Prepare private bills of costs, interim and final
  • General administration related to the billing and closure of files
  • Providing ongoing support, guidance, and training to colleagues to promote best practice and continuous improvement in cost recovery processes

Skills Required

  • Up to date knowledge of LAA costs Assessment guidance and legislation
  • Knowledge of CCMS and the ability to use the system confidently
  • Good organisational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail (accuracy essential)
  • Good communication skills
  • Good IT skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Friendly and professional manner
