Cost Accounting Manager (Hybrid)
This position provides management and direction within the Accounting Department, overseeing the accounting close process and financial analysis for the organization and its affiliates. The role maintains a controlled environment for account analyses and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and supports various audit activities by collaborating with internal, external, and regulatory auditors.
We are looking for an experienced professional in the greater Baltimore metropolitan area who is willing and able to work in a hybrid model. The incumbent will work a portion of their week from home and a portion on-site at a CareFirst location based on business needs.
Responsibilities
- Direct the effective and timely monthly accounting close process, including preparation and review of journal entries.
- Establish and ensure compliance with the monthly close timeline.
- Develop accounting processes to support unique business arrangements and contractual agreements.
- Coordinate development and implementation of internal accounting controls, analytical tools, reports, and systems enhancements supporting financial management.
- Direct investigation and resolution of unusual trends or potential issues to ensure data integrity and identify business issues.
- Monitor and review balance sheet account analyses to identify potential issues and ensure financial data integrity and timely completion.
- Prepare and present analysis to support financial performance for Senior Management, emphasizing actual versus plan/target results.
- Direct research and analysis for special projects and ad-hoc requests related to financial performance, including analysis of individual company results and product segment income, expense, and care results.
- Communicate findings to management through concise written and oral presentations.
- Manage departmental staff through goal setting, guidance, support, coaching, and feedback consistent with corporate HR policies.
- Prioritize and assign goals and projects; resolve employee issues and provide developmental opportunities.
- Produce and manage the departmental budget.
- Provide subject matter expertise in support of corporate initiatives and other special projects.
- Identify opportunities and drive continuous process improvements and innovation within the department.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a relevant field. In lieu of a degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required.
- 5 years of progressively responsible accounting/auditing experience.
- 1 year of supervisory experience or demonstrated progressive leadership.
Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to present issues and conclusions to a diverse audience.
- Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
- Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
- Advanced analytical and financial modeling skills, with exceptional in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Multi-tasking ability to handle multiple priorities and adjust to changing requirements in a rapidly evolving organization.
- Demonstrated expertise in accounting and financial operations, internal accounting controls, and an understanding of business and key performance measures.
- Ability to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers.
- Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service, including to demanding or challenging customers.
Pay
Salary Range: $120,640 - $223,938
The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for geographic differentials. Compensation decisions depend on factors such as scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education/training, internal peer equity, and market considerations. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range.
