Cost Accountant

Michael Foods, Inc. is a leader in the food processing and distribution industry with business in egg products, refrigerated grocery, and potato products. Our Mars Hill, Maine facility is part of Pineland Farms, one of the largest food manufacturing organizations in Aroostook County, employing over 200 team members dedicated to providing high-quality potato products.

Responsibilities

• Maintain standard costs and reconcile inventories.
• Assist in the monthly close process, annual budget process, and monthly key performance indicator (KPI) reporting.
• Prepare weekly and mid-month trend reporting and monitor process orders.
• Assist in financial reporting for potato procurement.
• Ensure compliance with safety work rules and reinforce safety as a core value.
• Execute and ensure the accuracy of operating reporting (trend, plant performance, consumption, labor, etc.).
• Monitor order variances and act as a liaison between production and accounting to resolve discrepancies.
• Monitor SAP inventories for accuracy, including cycle counts, variance research, and posting.
• Prepare and maintain standard cost estimates in SAP.
• Assist in month-end close activities (journal entries, order settlement, variance reporting, KPI reporting).
• Assist in the preparation of the annual operating plan.
• Maintain master data setup: resources, materials, BOMs, and recipes.
• Ensure a safe and healthy workplace by adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
• Follow quality work practices, GMPs, and maintain sanitary conditions to ensure product quality.
• Report any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality.
• Ensure regulatory compliance at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
• Demonstrated skills in all aspects of financial accounting or reporting.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Aptitude for effective and efficient utilization of computer technologies.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Access, Word).
• Experience with SAP and/or cost accounting in manufacturing is a plus.

Pay

$56,737 - $79,432 per year.
