About the role
Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, reporting to the Director of Finance, the Cost Accountant prepares and maintains accounting records and researches and interprets accounting records to provide advice or prepare statements.
Responsibilities
- Perform periodic review of Profit and Loss (P&L) accounts to ensure postings comply with defined policies, processes, and procedures.
- Compare actual results with forecast/quote, research variances, and post required adjustments in the books.
- Collect business reasons for remaining variances and report appropriately.
- Reconcile scoped balance sheet accounts with sub-ledger/manual schedules to identify and resolve variances.
- Review accounts periodically to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Plan and execute all book-close and reporting activities accurately and on time.
- Collaborate with relevant teams to prepare forecasts and budgets for related accounts.
- Work with the Operations team to improve business and operational metrics.
- Stay familiar with relevant accounting, regulatory, and reporting requirements in the Controllers Handbook and RCTS.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or related field (e.g., B.Com, B.C.S, M.Com, MBA, BBA, BBM).
- 3–4 years of related experience in cost accounting or finance.
Qualifications
Professional certification is preferred, such as:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Certified Financial Planner (CFP)
- Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
- APICS certification (America Production Inventory Control Society)
- Chartered Accountant (CA)
- Certified General Accountant (CGA)
