Cost Accountant – Aerospace Manufacturing Position Summary The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing, controlling, and reporting costs associated with complex aerospace manufacturing operations. This role supports compliance with regulatory standards, improves cost efficiency, and provides financial insights to engineering, production, and leadership teams. Key Responsibilities Cost Accounting & AnalysisAnalyze direct materials, labor, and overhead costs for aerospace components and assembliesMaintain and update standard costs; perform cost roll-ups for new and existing productsSupport job order costing and project-based accounting typical in aerospace manufacturingInventory & Manufacturing AccountingOversee inventory valuation (raw materials, WIP, finished goods)Monitor cycle counts and physical inventory auditsEnsure accurate cost tracking across long production cyclesVariance & Performance AnalysisAnalyze production variances (material usage, labor efficiency, overhead absorption)Partner with operations to explain variances and implement corrective actionsCompliance & Regulatory SupportEnsure compliance with GAAP and government contracting rulesSupport audits related to Defense Contract Audit Agency requirements (if applicable)Assist with cost proposals and pricing for government contractsBudgeting & ForecastingDevelop manufacturing budgets and forecastsTrack capital expenditures and production costs against planERP & SystemsWork within ERP systems such as SAP ERP or EPICORImprove cost accounting processes and system accuracyCross-Functional CollaborationPartner with engineering, supply chain, and production teamsSupport new product introduction (NPI) costing and profitability analysis Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field2 -4 years of cost accounting experience, preferably in aerospace or manufacturingStrong knowledge of standard costing and inventory accountingExperience with government contracts or regulated industries is highly preferredProficiency in Excel and ERP systemsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
