About the Role

To help lead a team to create and maintain the Starbucks experience for our customers. The Assistant Manager is required to regularly and customarily exercise discretion in training and managing the overall team, ensuring customer satisfaction and product quality, and managing safety and security within the department.

This is a non-exempt position that formally reports to the Starbucks Manager.

Requirements

  • Food handling permit required within the first 14 days of employment.
  • Minimum of 2 years previous progressively responsible retail experience, preferably in food or restaurant.
  • Must be Starbucks AST (Advanced Store Trainer) certified within 90 days of being in position.
  • Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino Learning Plan.

A college degree in a business-related field may substitute for a portion of the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Know and implement the Cosentino Customer Service Standards.
  • Display a “customer comes first” attitude by training and holding the team accountable for delivering legendary customer service.
  • Provide effective coaching to improve individual and team performance.
  • Promote a positive overall team atmosphere that includes cooperation and teamwork, high morale, positive interpersonal interactions and communications, and recognition for a job well done.
  • Manage multiple situations simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with integrity, honesty, and knowledge that promotes the culture, values, and mission of both Cosentino’s and Starbucks.
  • Demonstrate a calm exterior presence during periods of high volume or unusual events, and manage smooth transitions to keep the store operating to standard.
  • Provide direct supervision of team activities in a manner that is operationally effective, motivating, and respectful.
  • Address employee relations issues and work with the Store Director and Human Resources team to resolve them when the Department Manager is not present.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information effectively.
  • Ensure the team adheres to legal and operational compliance results.
  • Communicate department goals and individual roles clearly to team members.
  • Plan and implement a daily strategy to complete all department tasks and communicate this plan to the team.
  • Assist the Manager with effective inventory management, including counting and verifying merchandise, inspecting deliveries, and utilizing cost-effective ordering practices.
  • Be knowledgeable about department items to answer customer questions accurately and courteously.
  • Meet or exceed productivity standards to achieve desired team and individual results.
  • Know, comply with, and ensure the team complies with all health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures.
  • Keep the department clean, fully stocked, and creatively merchandised.
  • Practice proper rotation procedures to monitor product dates.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive customer and peer interactions.
  • Demonstrate basic math and reading skills required for the position.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and competently.

Additional Duties

  • Promote department sales by suggesting additional products, offering samples, and creating visually appealing displays.
  • Resolve customer complaints professionally and escalate when appropriate.
  • Ensure new employees receive orientation and ongoing training as needed.
  • Practice open communication with the store management team regarding department issues.
  • Prepare, package, and label products efficiently and accurately for sale.
  • Quickly unload incoming shipments and stock them neatly without damaging merchandise.
  • Support the company by completing additional tasks identified by management and assisting other stores or departments as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Reaching overhead with both arms up to a maximum of 72 inches, twisting at the waist, and lifting objects with both hands weighing up to 32 lbs.
  • Pushing and pulling grocery items up to a peak force of 20 lbs.
  • Standing and walking for long periods on tile, asphalt, concrete, or other hard surfaces.
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 32 lbs.
  • Bending and squatting, at times all the way to floor level.
  • Able to work in colder conditions of grocery coolers and freezers.

Non-essential physical abilities may include climbing a ladder up to 5 feet.
