Cortez - Open Pit Growth Geologist II/III

Responsibilities

• Drive zero harm workplace through stop work responsibility and other safety programs.
• Build and maintain collaborative internal relationships with key departments.
• Build technical knowledge for geological mapping, drilling, and logging programs.
• Mentor and train junior geologists.
• Responsible for daily surface field work and drill inspections.
• Responsible for daily mine geology activities (blast hole mapping and face wall mapping).
• Responsible for daily ore control duties by tracking material from the mine to the process facilities.
• Design, implement, track, and interpret drill program results.
• Engage with geology and resource modeling team to ensure accurate, fit-for-purpose geological models and mineral estimations.
• Design, prepare, and implement proposals for production drill programs.
• Track, estimate costs, and request expenditures for production drill programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field required.
• Minimum four (4) years’ experience in open pit or underground mine geology required.
• Experience leading technical teams with strong interdepartmental communication skills required.
• Familiarity with Vulcan, Deswik, Leapfrog, and Acquire software required.
• Proven ability to communicate optimally; both verbally and in writing required.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision required.
• Excellent safety record with ability to demonstrate safety leadership required.

About the Role

Nevada Gold Mines is looking for a Geologist III at Cortez open pit mines. This position is tasked with mine geology, ore control, and executing drill programs activities to derisk the mine plan, expand current reserve and resource, identify new and economically viable ore zones, and incorporate data and interpretation into the geologic model.

Requirements

This position requires an individual who is safety oriented, possesses a background using Acquire, Leapfrog, Deswik, and Vulcan mining software, and is capable of working with a diverse team of mine geologists, technical services staff, mine operations, and diamond drillers.
