About the role

This position is responsible for managing daily activities related to corrosion control for an assigned area, including all facets of cathodic protection, data acquisition, interpretation, and associated corrections/repairs. Responsibilities also include overseeing computerized compliance documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance with appropriate agencies, and proactively recognizing and providing alternative solutions for optimal corrosion control in consultation with the Region Corrosion Leader.

The role involves completing Operator Qualification tasks assigned to the Corrosion program and some pipeline-related O&M procedures, researching new technologies and best practices, and providing regular updates on the corrosion scenario to asset owners. The successful candidate will inspect construction corrosion-related projects and may occasionally assist other areas.

The position is based in Plaquemine, LA, with geographical responsibilities that may be adjusted to manage workload.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily corrosion control activities, including cathodic protection and data acquisition, interpretation, and corrections/repairs.
  • Oversee computerized compliance documentation to ensure regulatory compliance with agencies such as DOT 195 and DOT 192.
  • Proactively identify and implement alternative solutions for optimal corrosion control.
  • Complete Operator Qualification tasks for the Corrosion program and pipeline-related O&M procedures.
  • Research new technologies and industry best practices to improve efficiency.
  • Provide regular updates on corrosion scenarios to asset owners.
  • Inspect construction corrosion-related projects within the assigned area and assist other areas as needed.
  • Explain and inspect corrosion-related projects during construction.

Requirements

  • More than 3 years of corrosion control experience or pipeline operating experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with DOT 195 and DOT 192 compliance.
  • Basic understanding of corrosion control methodologies and cathodic protection for pipelines.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of personnel.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow company procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. for a minimum of 50 feet, operate valve control wheels with a minimum of 50 turns, and work alone in extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, muddy, wet).

Qualifications

  • Minimum education requirement: Associate’s Degree in Corrosion Technology or equivalent on-the-job training.
  • Required to obtain NACE Corrosion Level “Tester” certification or higher within one year of employment.
  • High School Diploma (required).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 years of gas pipeline experience.
  • 10 years of liquid pipeline experience.
  • Industry-related electrical experience.
  • Industry-related instrumentation experience.
  • 10 years of corrosion experience.
  • Associate’s degree in Corrosion or a related field.
