Corrosion Prevention Technician

About the role

HF Sinclair Midstream in Casper, WY is seeking a Corrosion Prevention Technician to plan and perform tasks related to the cathodic protection and corrosion control program for company-owned and operated pipelines and tanks.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize corrosion-related testing equipment and methods to evaluate company-owned pipelines, tanks, and facilities for corrosion, corrosion-related defects, and adequacy of the cathodic protection program.
  • Develop and implement plans to remedy any deficiencies.
  • Perform measurement and troubleshooting of rectifiers used in cathodic protection.
  • Complete cathodic protection corrosion surveys.
  • Interpret internal corrosion data collected from coupons and liquid samples.
  • Maintain records for all surveys, tests, and work progress reports in accordance with state, federal, and company policies.
  • Conduct proper atmospheric inspections on company-owned and operated assets in accordance with state, federal, and company policies.
  • Participate in PHMSA, state, and internal audits.
  • Participate in corrosion-related local correlation committee meetings and NACE functions, including local chapter meetings and area conferences.
  • Assist with the installation of corrosion mitigation systems.
  • Coordinate all maintenance of the cathodic protection and corrosion prevention system in the assigned area.
  • Serve as a liaison with operations from a corrosion-related technical aspect and assist when necessary.
  • Complete special assignments or tasks as determined by management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of on-the-job experience.
  • Preferred experience: pipeline construction, pipeline operations, or a background in electrical theory.
  • Experience with MC Miller GX field computer and McMiller Proactive software is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Preferred education: NACE Level I Cathodic Protection Tester Certification, NACE Corrosion Technologist Certification, or a bachelor’s degree.

Skills

  • Intermediate-level reading, writing, and basic mathematical calculation skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and carry out duties with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient with MS10 operating system and Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of co-workers and external contacts.
  • Required to maintain operator qualifications related to corrosion prevention.
  • Basic understanding of DOT CFR 49 Part 195 requirements.
  • Ability to maintain and operate a company-owned vehicle, including off-road environments and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).
  • Ability to lead and train other company personnel.

Work Conditions

  • Field-based position with up to 40% travel by land or air.
  • Work in refinery, industrial, or outdoor environments; subject to varying weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Exposure to loud noises, vibrations, fumes, airborne particles, dust, dirt, mud, water, petroleum products, chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and extreme temperatures.
  • Occasional work near moving mechanical parts, rotating equipment, or risk of electrical shock.
  • Work in confined spaces or at heights up to 50 feet.
