Location: Weekly travel required between CO, NM, WY, TX. Compact license and CO state residency required. $250 monthly travel allowance, plus travel expenses paid.

About the Role

CorrHealth is seeking RNs for a full-time, permanent position with flexible scheduling across our region. This role involves weekly travel to designated CorrHealth facilities in CO, NM, TX, and WY, supporting inmate healthcare. You will work a minimum of 36-48 hours weekly, with flexible availability required for both day and night shifts, 7 days a week. For tax purposes, you must reside in CO, NM, TX, or WY.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and identify health problems of new inmates and initiate medical records and special needs PORs.
  • Respond to day-to-day medical issues and/or emergencies with patients.
  • Administer prescribed treatments and medications as needed or medically required.
  • Prepare medical equipment, records, and rooms for patient examinations, assisting providers as necessary.
  • Practice sound pharmacology in preparation, maintenance, administration, and documentation of prescribed drugs and/or IV therapies.
  • Maintain IVs for IV therapies as needed.
  • Meet regularly with the Health Services Administrator (HSA) to review medical services; may serve as Charge Nurse or Acting Supervisor in the HSA’s absence.
  • Demonstrate awareness of emergency procedures and triage guidelines; capable of leading in CPR emergencies and using AED equipment if trained.
  • Safely use standard medical equipment, including AED, EKG, blood pressure devices, oxygen, sterilization tools, Glucometer, Doppler, and Pulse Oximeter.
  • Use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions and approaches to problems.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately to lower-level licensed employees.
  • Educate patients on diet, hygiene, and prevention of chronic medical diseases.
  • Travel weekly to scheduled locations on a full-time basis.

Requirements

  • Current and unrestricted compact license as a Registered Nurse; must maintain licensure.
  • Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated state accrediting agency.
  • Current AED certification; must maintain certification.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Current TB test (taken within one year).
  • Flexible availability for both day and night shifts, 7 days a week.
  • Willingness to travel weekly and comply with facility-specific and CorrHealth policies and procedures.
  • Ability to respect the dignity and confidentiality of inmates and maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug test.

Skills

  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication with coworkers, supervisors, jail administration, and patients.
  • Excellent verbal and written comprehension, deductive reasoning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to use/learn a variety of software, including site-specific programs.
  • Ability to appropriately and safely use standard medical equipment.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful and demanding situations.
  • Ability to transport objects up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

Work is performed inside a correctional facility. Employees are exposed to some level of risk and/or harm by inmates, including exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Must comply with all security rules and regulations to minimize risk.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Ability to remain stationary and move throughout the facility, including up and down flights of stairs.
  • Ability to position oneself in different spaces and convey information in conversations with patients.
  • Ability to identify and detect objects and assess situations from a variety of distances.
  • Ability to stay calm in stressful and demanding situations.
