CorrHealth Travel Nurse / RN
Location: Weekly travel required between CO, NM, WY, TX. Compact license and CO state residency required. $250 monthly travel allowance, plus travel expenses paid.
About the Role
CorrHealth is seeking Registered Nurses (RNs) for full-time, permanent positions with flexible scheduling across our region. This role involves weekly travel to designated CorrHealth facilities in CO, NM, TX, and WY, supporting inmate healthcare. You will provide a full range of nursing services, including assessments, treatments, and emergency response, while maintaining facility security. This is not a temporary or contract travel role; you will be scheduled for full-time hours (36-48 hrs weekly) on an as-needed basis across all sites. Flexible availability for both day and night shifts, 7 days a week, is required.
Responsibilities
- Assesses and identifies health problems of new inmates and initiates medical records and special needs PORs.
- Responds to day-to-day medical issues and/or emergencies with patients.
- Administers prescribed treatments and medications as needed/medically required.
- Prepares medical equipment, records, and rooms for examinations of patients; assists providers if necessary.
- Practices sound pharmacology in preparation, maintenance, administration, and documentation of prescribed drugs and/or IV therapies.
- Maintains IVs for IV therapies, as needed.
- Meets regularly with the Health Services Administrator (HSA) to review medical services; may serve as Charge Nurse or Acting Supervisor in the HSA’s absence.
- Demonstrates awareness of emergency procedures and crisis plans; capable of leading in CPR emergencies and using AED equipment if trained.
- Safely uses standard medical equipment, including AED, EKG, blood pressure devices, oxygen, sterilization tools, Glucometer, Doppler, and Pulse Oximeter.
- Delegates tasks appropriately to lower-level licensure employees.
- Educates patients on diet, hygiene, and prevention of chronic medical diseases.
- Travels weekly to scheduled locations on a full-time basis.
Requirements
- Current and unrestricted compact license as a Registered Nurse; must maintain licensure.
- Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated state accrediting agent.
- Current AED certification; must maintain certification.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Current TB test (taken within one year).
- Must live in CO, NM, TX, or WY for tax purposes.
- Flexible availability for both day and night shifts, 7 days a week.
- Willingness to travel weekly and comply with facility-specific and CorrHealth policies and procedures.
- Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug test.
- Experience in correctional healthcare preferred but not required.

- Clear and effective verbal and written communication with coworkers, supervisors, jail administration, and patients.
- Excellent verbal and written comprehension, deductive reasoning, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to use/learn site-specific software programs.
- Ability to respect the dignity and confidentiality of inmates and maintain HIPAA compliance.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and assess medical conditions from a variety of distances.
- Capable of transporting objects up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
Work is performed inside a correctional facility. Employees are exposed to some level of risk and/or harm by inmates, including exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Must comply with all security rules and regulations to minimize risk and maintain safety.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Ability to remain stationary and move throughout the facility, including up and down flights of stairs.
- Ability to position oneself in different spaces and frequently communicate with patients.
- Ability to identify and detect objects and assess situations from a variety of distances.
- Ability to stay calm in stressful and demanding situations.
