About the role
The Corrections Officer position offers a starting hourly rate of $24.19 per hour and increases to $25.04 per hour after six months, with non-exempt status and roll call pay. Shift differentials are also available based on hours worked.
Responsibilities
- Patrols assigned areas of correctional institutions
- Supervises offenders in housing units and observes them to prevent disturbances
- Escorts offenders to and from appointments and between institutions
- Maintains order in recreation areas and enforces institution rules
- Operates security control centers, regulates movement of individuals, and maintains communication systems
- May operate automotive equipment for transporting offenders and patrolling the perimeter
- Performs general tasks as required
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Keyboard skill of 20 WPM
- Valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license
- Completion of Department of Corrections Basic Training class
- Lifting: Very Heavy (over 100 lbs)
- Carrying: Heavy (over 100 lbs)
