About the role
The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking Corrections Officers and Corrections Medical Officers. This is an entry-level position that involves overseeing and participating in the custody, security, and treatment of prisoners in correctional facilities.
Responsibilities
- Oversight and participation in the custody, security, and treatment of prisoners or detainees.
- Learning and developing interpersonal skills required to perform a range of corrections officer assignments.
- Completion of DOC Officer Recruit Training program consisting of 8 weeks of academy training and 2 months of on-the-job training.
- Completion of probationary period at an assigned correctional facility.
- Annual training and continuing certification as a Corrections Officer.
Requirements
- Education: Completion of 15 semester (23 term) college credits in any field. Military Veterans: Joint Services Transcripts (JST).
- Experience: 8 years as a Correctional Officer in a State or Federal Penitentiary.
Qualifications
- Age: Must be at least 18 years old at the time of employment.
- Medical Exam: Must pass a post-job-offer medical exam.
- Drug Screen: Must pass a drug screen.
- Physical Fitness Test: Must pass a physical fitness test.
- Training: Completion of an approved eight-week corrections officer training program, followed by eight weeks of on-the-job training.
